Hi

Here are the current bugs we have been dealing with in CodeCharge Studio Version 4.3.00.54. Some are bugs that YesSoftware simply has not fixed over the versions and some are new. A few of these buge we have found in CodeCharge Studio Ver. 4.3.00.54 are absolute show stoppers and cause, what once was a RAD tool, CodeCharge Studio to become a SAAD tool.

Share you bugs here and possibly any workarounds you might have.

Here is what we have found and cannot get any fixes from YesSoftware that work.

1. CodeCharge Studio trashes your main PHP script file and turns itr into about 1.6 meg of garbage characters. When Published the page displays about 1.6meg of Kanji Charactewrs and locks up your browser.

2. CodeCharge Studio converts you HTML so when published the CCS design View is the webv page that is served up in the browser.

3. Adding a URL Parameter to an existing link causes CodeCharge Studio to create a fatal syntax error in the PHP script.

4. Adding a new search component into an existing page CodeCharge Studio Deletes other components on the page.

5. Using Separate JS files in a CodeCharge Studio project, the IDE cannot find the xx_events.js file when you try to edit any event action code. I places you randomly in the main HTML page not the separate JS file to edit.

6. When a FCKEditor event is attached to a text box and the component is hidden, CodeCharge Studio generates code that will cause your web page to fail with javascript errors object required.

7. CodeCharge Studio's File Upload Component will create bad file entries on Linux servers if uploading a windows file that has spaces in the name. The files on the server become unusable and linux thinks it has mutiple files uploaded.

These are just the problems that have come up in one project using CodeCharge Studio Version 4.3.00.54

There are of course several others that have been around a long time... Like random re-writing of your HTML. And the all to often CodeCharge Studio Crash.

Remember in CodeCharge Studio.. Save All every 5 or 6 lines of code and, if you have the time, back up after every edit.

Have fun

The error

has been solved by Codecharge. There is a simple fix for this indeed annoying error. Ask support for this.

Just in general,

I am using Codecharge already since a long time, several years now. I've got 3 huge websites all built more or less completely around Codecharge.
I find and have always found it a fantastic program that served me well for a long time.
And yes, there are some annoying bugs in the software that should be solved by Codecharge engineers. Still, I have of course looked around for alternatives but haven't found one that is just as easy to work with as Codecharge.
I find their support department great. I have had a few issues I had to ask support to help me with and I have always had an answer within the next hour (bearing in mind the time difference of course) and had answers that really helped me.
If Codecharge would bring out version 5.0 with a fix for all the bugs from version 4, I would buy it immediately, despite the fact that the new version 5.0 probably would contain a same number of new bugs. :D

Hi Terhart

Thanks for the reply.

The PHP script trashing error: Support sent me a DLL and was told to modify a Registry entry. I installed the DLL. The registry entry they told me to change did not exist. I added the new registry key they specified and set it as they indicated.. It did not fix the problem.

Could you share the fix with me. Thanks..

BTW We agree with you regarding CCS and the fact that it is a great tool. In fact, We had never seen a better one for developing web applications. We have built many large and complicated and significant web based applications using CCS.

However, These days, since YesSoftware has been ignoring the basics of the framework and not focusing on servicing bugs to make CCS reliable, we spend more time battling the Bugs and un-reliability of the IDE than actually writing code.

We are reluctantly evaluating different frameworks for replacing CodeCharge Studio only because we require a more bug free and robust development environment as we go forward. It is too bad since we would have prefered staying with CCS but we can no longer afford the high cost of using CodeCharge Studio in terms of lost development time and revenue.

This current project we are working on, CodeCharge Studio has cost us real dollars in lost development time and client perception. YesSoftware's Support responses have not been forthcoming in resolving these problems or even providing me with an estimate of time to fix so we can inform our client.

Thanks again

Have fun.
